How to Take Notes When You Already Have the Notes

PERSONALIZE YOUR NOTES
The notes are “one-size-fits-all,” so make them your own, by whatever system you choose: circling vocabulary, highlighting formulas and equations, underlining key words or phrases, and especially by annotation.
ANNOTATE YOUR NOTES
BEFORE CLASS
Print the notes out at least a day in advance.
Read over the notes and make annotations in the large margin to the left about things you are not sure you will understand when we go over them in class, or any questions you already have.
DURING CLASS
As we go over the notes in class, highlight or underline any key words or phrases.  Write your own annotations in the large margin to the left.  Note any possible test questions that occur to you.  Use some system to remind yourself of ways this material relates to previous material in the same topic or other topics.
AFTER CLASS
Go over the notes and make sure that all of the questions you had before class or that came up during class were answered – if not, ask them.
Make any annotations that will help you study for the test.
Go over the learning objectives for that topic and make sure that you can locate the material related to them in your notes.
ANNOTATION
Annotation involves an interactive commentary or explanatory notes.
When you annotate your notes look for and make note of:
Evidences
Examples and illustrations
Significance
Summaries
Clarification
Reasons or explanations of why
Key points
Memos to yourself, comments, and reminders
