AP Chemistry

Supplemental Materials

Here are some books that will prove helpful in learning AP Chemistry and in studying for my tests, the Chemistry Olympiad tests, and for the AP Chemistry test.

Note
Taking

This website will provide you with detailed notes for each topic we will cover.  However, you will not be able to sit and "veg" in class.  For the two keys to being successful when notes are provided for you, click here.

Lab
Notebook

AP students will need to buy and keep a detailed lab notebook.  The requirements for this notebook are similar to those required by many colleges.  For more information, click here.

Lab
Reports

AP students will be submitting lab reports in several formats.  Some college professors use the tear-out form from lab manuals the students buy.  Others allow an abbreviated form of the full formal lab report.  Still others require a full, formal lab report.  For more information in Word 2000 format, click here.

Planned
Afternoon
Labs

Some labs will take place during the AP class' regular period.  However to satisfy the AP requirements, we will need to meet for about two hours on two Monday afternoons, or two Tuesday afternoons, a month.  For a list of days and labs, click here.

Safety
Notes

Safety is critical in the chemistry lab.  For a set of notes on lab safety in Word 2000 format, click here.

Scientific Method
Notes

For a more in-depth set of notes on the scientific method in Word 2000 format, click here.

FRQ
Analyses

For analyses of the Free Response Questions from previous AP exams by year, click here.

For further information see the AP Central's website's latest full exam format description.

Superhero
Science

The powers and abilities of many superheroes lend themselves to interesting scientific speculation.  Here are past assignments regarding the science of superheroes that my students have received.
